Imagine CoolieA seven-spotted ladybug, a 3D reproductive system, or even a quilt-made butterfly-all were prepared within an inch space. It is the basis of the #Aninchaugust challenge running on Instagram. Now in its eighth year, Hyderabad-based architects Meghalika Panduru and Neha Sharma’s initiative have become a pocket-shaped phase for immense creativity.

Creative challenge

The pair first met as colleagues from Shankar Narayan Architects in Secunderabad, where a shared love for art attracted them together. “Architecture is a creative field, but it can slip into monotony with deadline and client briefs-the game was missing in our work-life balance,” Meghalika recalls. Neha says, “We were designing for others, but never earning time for ourselves. We wanted to come back into a simple joy of sketching, scriptling, or color without any reason.”

Art soon became a way of self-realization. But this idea was not only to keep its creativity alive. It was also about pushing itself and identical -minded enthusiasts to create art within an inch. Why an inch? Meghalika explains, “A big canvas can feel heavy. You are facing such an empty space to fill it that it kills inspiration. Working in an inch keeps it fickle and remarkable.”
Love for nature
The team cooperates with Sol Forest India on the subject of ‘biodiversity’ this year. While artists are showing their love for nature and biodiversity in an inch, macrophotographers have a great time with the activity of monsoon species.
With an inch as an canvas, challenge – post -hashtag #Ashtag with #aninchaugust, post an art work on Instagram everyday, open to all – who are interested in art, but do not get time to pursue it, or people who have never tried art in their lives. The option of August was systematically.

Since its first year in August 2018, the community made it to Macro photography next year, (especially insects and small life on earth). Says Neha, “Photographers Peter Prashant and Durga Shankar Macro are one of the first people to participate in photography and encourage others.
So far, with around 8,000 posts, participants have tried to try various subjects, mediums and styles such as pencil sketch, color pencil sketching, painting (watercolor, acrylic, oil paints, and more), sculping – Clay, Paper Mach, Quilling and Paper Cut Arts, and even a pottery. Micro artworks (engraved in pencil lead) have also been detected with crochet in one inch.
New initiative
Tirupati’s art and photography community has also raised this challenge. The city’s art lover and member of the urban sketches, hosting Tirupati, celebrates the ‘Aninchugst Tirupati edition’ and the culture of the holy city.
Meghalika, who is good in re -forming artifacts by other artists, says, “Although I was copying others, the perspective was different and it was exciting to do it within an inch.”

The challenge used the themes and art signals (“to cooperate with groups such as Hyderabad to introduce meat-ups and organize meat-ups, the challenge used ideas to maintain interest. The team displays the functions of the participants at a site (it was held in a cafe and T-work as the community developed on the last Sunday of August). To be held on 31 August this year, the site is to be decided.

Finally, Meghalika says, the idea of posting work everyday is to be motivated and consistent. “If you are unable to post it everyday, there is nothing to lose. It is only about being motivated and open for creative challenges. Anyone can ride on this train at any point in August.”
