Anita Ratnam transferred the Madras High Court against her personality rights violations

The Madras High Court on Wednesday (April 30, 2025) directed the meta platform Inc. and Telegram FZ-LLC to take down all fake Facebook accounts and telegram channels, who choreographer Anita R. Ratnam’s pictures and videos were misused and used deep audio clips of their voice for monetary investments from people of fraud.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy directed two social media giants located in the United States and the United Arab Emirates, first to pull a list of 11 fake telegram channels and three Facebook accounts, which Ms. Ratnam listed in her plaintiff and then removed other fake accounts and when Ms. Ratnam reported and when Ms. Ratnam reported.

The interim order was passed on a civil suit filed against the violation of his personality rights by the UNESCO Award winning choreographer. His lawyer Ms. Bharath told the court that her customer was a choreographer, artist, producer, speaker, mentor, art entrepreneur and a pioneer of Nav Bharatam, a unique dance style, consisting of Bharatanatyam, Kathakali and Yoga.

She began performing Bharatanatyam in the 1970s and since then, she was involved in the innumerable activities related to various art forms. Ms. Ratnam founded her own dance theater, cuisted on various festivals, developed her movement style and made a significant contribution to the world of performing art by creating and choreographing a large body of work, Mr. Bharat said.

He also said that the plaintiff performed more than 1,300 shows in 37 countries.

Under such circumstances, he came to know about the misuse of his photos and videos in a fake social media account in the last week of February this year. He immediately issued public precautions notices in newspapers on March 5, 2025 and also lodged complaints with cybercrime cell. He further approached the meta platforms, who took down more than 70 fake accounts, who misused their photos, videos and voice.

Nevertheless, since she continued to learn about the existence of several other fake social media accounts, Ms. Ratnam had chosen to register the current John Do Suut (a fictional name used to register a case against unknown persons) about her personality rights violations). He sought a restraint order against the misuse of his personality/publicity rights for any commercial or personal benefit.
