New Delhi: Anurag Kashyap’s latest directorial venture, Nishanchi, starring Aishwarya Thackeray, Vedika Pinto, Monica Panwar and others, made its theatrical debut in September this year. The film ends on a cliffhanger, hinting towards a second installment. Now, exactly two months later, Sniper 2 has quietly premiered on a streaming platform.
Why OTT? Kashyap explains
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Kashyap told, “It was my suggestion, and our collective decision between Amazon (producers) and us.” He said that the move was influenced by the audience’s response to Part 1: “If audiences had come for Part 1, there was no way that the second part would not have been released in theatres. And since most of the feedback was that the film felt incomplete to everyone, it was decided to give them the complete experience.”

about the sniper
Sniper follows twin brothers with identical looks but opposite personalities – a story of brotherhood, betrayal, love and redemption against the backdrop of crime. Part 1 introduces Manjari (Monica Panwar), a former trap sharpshooter, and her twin sons, Bablu and Dablu (both played by Aishwarya Thackeray). Bablu, who joins Ambika Prasad’s (Kumud Mishra) gang, falls in love with Rinku (Vedika Pinto), the daughter of the man he once killed, pushing his life of crime into a battle of crime and revenge. Part 2 continues this saga, exploring Bablu’s quest for redemption as he is drawn back into the dangerous world of Ambika, culminating in an explosive ending where long-buried truths are revealed.
Anurag Kashyap shared, “Nishanchi is a story that has everything I love about Hindi cinema – emotion, intensity, chaos, action and a lot of drama. It is a very personal film for me and thus everything from its writing to the shooting to the characters has been made with utmost passion and purity. It is a family saga and while Part 1 delves deeper into the world of crime and the choices that define us, Part 2 punishes, It’s about redemption and the price we pay for those choices. I’m extremely grateful to our cast, crew and the team at Amazon MGM Studios India for putting their heart and soul into bringing this story to life, I can’t wait for audiences in India and around the world to experience both parts together when Nishanchi premieres on November 14.”
