Mumbai: Filmmaker and actor Anurag Kaship has expressed his concern over Anant Mahadevan’s biographical drama, ‘Phule’ coming back.
The Pratik Gandhi and Patilekha starrer have allegedly faced backlash to promote casteism. The producers have been asked by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to make several edits in the film before releasing on April 25.
The manufacturers had to remove many caste references, including words such as ‘Mahar’, ‘Mangal’, ‘muscle’, and ‘caste of the system of Manu’ after CBFC’s guidelines.
Sharing his crisis about the CBFC’s decision, Kaship said a note on his Insta stories, “Punjab 95, Tees, Dhadak 2, Phule- I do not know how many other films are blocked, which expose the agenda of this casteism, which does not even call about mirror. They bother them, F …. Career.”
In another post, ‘Gangs of Wasipur’ producer asked a very important question – how do groups and wings reach films before the release of the film?
He wrote, “My question is that when movies go to censors, the board consists of four members. How groups and wings are nonsense and get access to films until they are accessible. The entire fucking system is rigged.”
Earlier, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha also used social media to question film censorship. The director of ‘SHAPAD’ wrote on his IG, “Is there no caste system in society? Is it never in existence? Why should we lie to ourselves? And then, why only cinema should be lied? Finally, after all, the Election Commission allowed CBFC in speeches and what CBFCs can not have different standards in films.
