AR Rahman’s 2023 Marakuma Nenjam Concert organizer ordered to pay of 50,000 compensation by Chennai Consumer Court

The Chennai North District Consumer Controversy Prevention Commission has ordered ACTC events to pay ₹ 50,000 as compensation for mismanagement of AC Rahman. Harakuma Nenjam Concert held in the city city in September 2023.

In his petition filed by KR Arjun, he claimed that ACTC events, Big Tree Entertainment and Mr. Rahman adopted negligence and inappropriate practices for the event, which was originally held on August 12, 2023, but was later postponed on 10 September 2023. He alleged that the incident management company had failed to organize the incidents. He also bought a ‘Diamond Category’ ticket, which guaranteed a parking space at the venue. However, this was not the case and therefore, he had to remember the incident.

However, incidents in ACTC stated that adverse weather conditions and unprecedented rains damaged the venue and equipment. Keeping in mind the weather reports, it canceled the incident. In addition, the cancellation of the concert was informed to all ticket buyers and information was posted on social media, the company said.

In its order, the chairman of the Commission D.K. Gopinath and members Kavith Kannan and V. Ramamurthy said that the event was organized by giving extensive publicity, it was the duty of the event management company, which was to provide or inform the participants long ago to avoid unnecessary difficulty and suffering and was also crowding in stampede. “Thus, we believe that the event management company is clearly negligent to cancel the incident on August 12, citing weather conditions at the last minute, causing monetary damage, serious mental difficulties and pain for people.”

The Commission directed the complainant to pay and pay 50,000 as compensation for migration and mental anguish and another ₹ 5,000 for the cost of litigation within two months. The complaint against Big Tree Entertainment and Mr. Rahman was dismissed as the forum did not get qualification in the complaint against them as they are formal parties.
