Are FBI Tapes Being Considered the Reason for Ben Affleck-JLo Divorce Rumors?

Showbiz gossip has been abuzz about Bennifer 2.0 since the start of the year, with the once-loved couple’s marriage now in trouble. There has been a flurry of headlines surrounding their marital problems, signalling an inevitably unfortunate end on the horizon. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have been going their separate ways for months, while this time period also includes rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs’ fall from hip-hop heaven.

Amid rumors of the Gigli costars’ imminent divorce, several theories have emerged as to why the pair are heading for a messy split despite their eventual reunion. American record executive Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight Jr. offered his opinion on the matter on a recent episode of his podcast.

The controversial Death Row Records co-founder and former CEO’s latest bold claim about the Hollywood stars’ marriage is reminiscent of a time when “Jenny From the Block” was still romantically linked to Diddy. The former couple began dating in 1999 before splitting in 2001. The “On the Floor” hitmaker cited infidelity as the reason in a Vibe interview. A May 2024 Rolling Stone story added to that conversation by saying the former Bad Boy rapper tried to get Lopez back after their breakup.

Suge Knight’s bold claims about Ben Affleck-Jennifer Lopez’s impending divorce

As for Suge Knight’s comments about the marriage between Lopez and Affleck being in trouble, he believes The Accountant actor got his hands on Diddy’s FBI tapes when the disgraced record producer’s homes in Miami and Los Angeles were raided in March of this year.

Breaking down his conspiracy theory, Knight said: “They raid Puffy’s house and they find all these videos of J.Lo doing this and that.” Knight also recalled the infamous nightclub shooting with Diddy in 1999, which also put Lopez in the unwanted spotlight. The then Hollywood IT couple were arrested and detained for their involvement in the shooting. However, the charges against Lopez were soon dropped.

Knight recanted the old story on his “Collect Calls with Suge Knight” podcast episode, saying, “And they know for a fact that J.Lo lied and said the gun was Shyne’s or something and sent the guy to jail, destroyed his life and she knew it was Puffy’s.”

The Death Row Records co-founder also insisted that the FBI had handed over the alleged footage implicating Lopez in the act to Affleck as “solid” before it was made public. “This is a white man who’s respected in the white world,” the Night Air actor/director says of the actor/director. “I’m pretty sure they would have said, ‘We want to show you some things about your wife.'”

He added: “I’m pretty sure they’re heading for a divorce because he’s a guy who’s lived a good life. Good parents don’t spend a lot of money. He’s not running from the paparazzi, he’s living his life. He has his team. He took out all that extra bullshit and now this motherfucker. He wants out.”

Former rap legend Suge Knight was sentenced to 28 years in prison in October 2018 for killing industry veteran Terry Carter in a hit-and-run incident on the set of the film Straight Outta Compton in 2015. He began hosting his podcast from prison in October 2023.

More about the infamous 1999 nightclub shooting

In a July 2000 interview, the “On the Floor” singer told British Elle that the nightclub shooting was an “absolute nightmare,” adding, “I was so scared in the car. I had absolutely no idea what was going on. Nobody knew.”

In April 2024, rapper-turned-politician Shyne gave his side of the story in an interview with Channel 5 Belize, calling himself Diddy’s “fall guy” in the 1999 shooting. At the time, Diddy was, although arrested and charged in connection with the accident, ultimately acquitted, while Shyne (Moses Michael Levi Barrow) was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The lucrative $30 million civil lawsuit filed against Combs by Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones Jr. highlights instances of sexual assault and harassment. It also alleges that Diddy “shared responsibility for a shooting at a New York City nightclub with rapper Shyne.” The same complaint also states that Lopez acted as a gun carrier for her then-boyfriend as she “carried guns into clubs for him and handed him the gun when he got into a fight with another man.”
