Set in a New York-like city, the video begins with a sanitation worker expressing his anger at fictional mayor Max Starling’s negligence in cleaning up a rat-infested area.

Grande thinks it is a “brilliant” idea, as it turns out she is brewing a love potion to make him fall in love with her. Grande’s cat breaks the bottle of the potion, but she manages to save some of it before setting off on a quest in a masked, Catwoman-like costume.
He then sneaks into Starling’s house and watches her from a distance, before he finds her sitting on his bed. Scared, he tries to leave but she tells him to stop, then gives him the potion. He takes off her mask to reveal her face and throws away the love potion – because he has already fallen in love with her.
