Being a part of an international event always causes a sense of verification, no matter how infallible or jade it is. For Bangalore -based artist Amrish Malwankar, who performed his work for the second time at the recently concluded World Arts Fair in Dubai, the experience was no less than self -confirmation.
The artist says that he had “always an inclination to paint,” but since his family drowned on it as a career choice, he took “the next best option – architecture.” However, he continued to paint and his artifacts piled up at his residence until his wife Tarunjeet encouraged him to hold an exhibition.
In 2009, he held his first show in Karnataka Chitrakala Parshath, and has not turned back since then. Amrit quit his job and handled the palette on a full -time basis.
“I usually work on a creative abstraction,” says Amrit. “I experiment with colors, how each hue is balanced with another and how they play with human psychology. I started working with abstract points in 2023.”
Last year, high praise of his work at the World Arts Fair in Dubai encouraged Amrish to continue with his artistic discoveries, and in the current series, he has created a forest in cubism.
“My main medium is always acrylic, but I also use other ingredients such as charcoal and its powder as well as oil pastels and pigments, to fix and balance a piece.”

Talking about his process, Amrish says, “Architects are taught to be an observer and architecture brings a discipline in your design and thought process. Whenever I see an interesting drama of colors, such as in sunset, I take out all my paints and introduce them to the canvas, trying to do the best.”
He says that they are the initial steps and he continues to work on a piece, refining it because it develops, until it feels that it has finally been completed.
Self-affected artists say that his show has the comments of one of the most enjoying things. “Everything they see in a work of art is something that I would never have thought about. They have a wonderful perspective, a magnificent imagination and the confidence to voice the voice that they see.”
“I would like to portray a circle and a stick and to say that a child believes that this is a tree. I enjoy my conversation with them and always encourage them.”
