New Delhi: Guru Purnima is an auspicious day dedicated to honouring all Gurus – those who teach, guide and inspire us with their wisdom and values.
On the special occasion of Guru Purnima, actress Jaya Bhattacharya who is playing the role of ‘Urmila’ in Sun Neo’s ‘Chhathi Maiya Ki Bitiya’ and actress Neelu Vaghela who is playing the role of ‘Maa Hukum’ in Sun Neo’s ‘Sajha Sindoor’ spoke about whom they consider as their gurus in their lives and how they have inspired them and played a vital role in changing their lives.
Jaya Bhattacharya who plays the pivotal character of Urmila in the show ‘Chhathi Maiya Ki Bitiya’ said, “Guru Purnima is a very special day for me as it was the first time I faced the camera and sang two songs about Gautam Buddha in Lucknow. I believe that life is our greatest teacher who teaches us lessons through our experiences. I learnt to act by watching movies and I am inspired by Smita Patil and Meena Kumari. From the spotboy to the director in every show, everyone is our guru. Their experiences are invaluable.
Senior actor SM Zaheer once told me, ‘You will not get anything before time or more than your luck’ and to not just be a good actor but also a great human being. I still remember and follow his advice. I still wish my school teachers on Teachers’ Day and appreciate everything I have learnt from them. I am also grateful to my energy healing teacher who has helped me grow as a person.” she added
Neelu Vaghela who plays Ma Hukum in the show ‘Sajha Sindoor’ said, “On Guru Purnima we honour the gurus who guide and support us. My first show was ‘Diya Aur Baati’, directed by Sumit Sir. The first shot was in Bikaner, where I shot a fainting scene in a wedding procession. Despite several retakes, Sumit Sir explained everything well, highlighting the difference between television and film techniques.
Another challenging scene involved a bomb explosion, in which Bhabho, a strong character, did not shed a tear. Bhabho’s character was difficult to play, and I am thankful to Shashi ma’am and Sumit sir for their invaluable support. It has been a long journey, and the support of the entire team has been crucial. On Guru Purnima, I would especially like to thank Sumit sir and Shashi ma’am for allowing me to play Bhabho,” said Vaghela
Chhathi Maiya Ki Bitiya stars Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Brinda Dahal, Sara Khan, Ashish Dixit and Jaya Bhattacharya in the lead roles.
The show focuses on Vaishnavi’s devotion to Chhathi Maiya, who guides and protects her worshippers while celebrating the victory of good over evil. Starring Sangita Ghosh, Sahil Uppal, Neelu Vaghela and Krutika Desai, ‘Sajha Sindoor’ is a family drama centered on Phuli and Gagan.
