Asrani passes away at the age of 84: The veteran actor will share the screen with Akshay Kumar for the last time in these two films – know details

New Delhi: Iconic Bollywood actor and comedy legend Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away on Monday at the age of 84, leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy of laughter and memorable characters.

The news of his demise was confirmed by his team An emotional tribute took to Instagram, where he captioned the post:

“The news of the demise of Asrani ji, the king of laughter and the great actor who ruled millions of hearts, has plunged all of us into deep mourning.

Akshay Kumar paid tribute

Actor Akshay Kumar, who collaborated with Asrani in many beloved comedies, expressed his deep grief in a heartfelt social media post. Kumar recalled their recent conversation on the sets of the upcoming film Haiwaan directed by Priyadarshan, where the two met just a week before Asrani’s demise.

“I am deeply saddened by the demise of Asrani ji. We had a warm hug just a week ago during the shooting of Haiwaan. He was a very sweet person…his comic timing was excellent.” Akshay wrote.

He further added, “All my cult films from Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhaag to De Dana Dan, Welcome and now our unreleased Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan… I have worked with him and learned a lot. What a huge loss for our industry. May God Asrani sir bless you for giving us millions of reasons to laugh. Om Shanti”

Asrani’s last on-screen appearance

Despite his death, fans will be able to see Asrani on the big screen for the last time. He recently completed filming for Haiwaan, which is currently in post-production, and is also expected to appear in another upcoming project Bhoot Bangla.

The funeral was held in Mumbai

Asrani died at Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai at 3 pm on Monday afternoon after a prolonged illness. His manager Babu Bhai Thiba confirmed the news to ANI. The actor was cremated the same evening at the Santa Cruz crematorium via electric cremation.

He is survived by his wife Manju Asrani, sister and nephew. The couple had no children.
