Austin Butler will play Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s new adaptation of American Psycho

Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho is not a remake

The film will not be a remake of the 2000 film, which starred Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, but will instead be a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel. According to the report, Guadagnino, known for Call Me By Your Name, Challengers and most recently Queer, will bring a new take to the book that may have a more erotic emphasis than the original horror satire. With a script by Scott Z. Burns, the film will reportedly offer a fresh take on the classic story.

Austin Butler is not the first choice for American Psycho

Before Austin Butler was cast for the role, there were rumors that Jacob Elordi was being considered for the role of Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho. However, for unknown reasons, Jacob could not secure the role. For those unaware, Austin and Jacob also share another connection. Both of them played the role of Elvis in the films of Baz Luhrmann (Elvis) and Sofia Coppola (Priscilla), respectively.

American Psycho starring Christian Bale was released in 2000. This twisted world is the story of Patrick Bateman, an investment banker in 1980s New York City who is also a Wall Street yuppie and serial killer. While Austin Butler is set to play Patrick Bateman in the new adaptation, according to reports, Guadagnino will have interpreted the character of Patrick Bateman very differently than his previous incarnation.

Meanwhile, Luca Guadagnino recently finished shooting After the Hunt starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield. The thriller film is scripted by Neera Garrett and also stars Ayo Adebiri, Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. Austin Butler, on the other hand, was last seen in the American war drama miniseries, Masters of the Air, created by John Shiban and John Orloff for Apple TV+. He was also a part of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2.
