Avenged Sevenfold’s Matt Shadows ahead of their Bengaluru show: It’s going to be a rollercoaster!

Matt Shadows, frontman of the popular American heavy metal band, Avenged Sevenfold, talks about the band’s excitement ahead of their first concert in India.

For the first time in their 25-year career, American heavy metal giants Avenged Sevenfold are set to perform in India and frontman Matt Shadows couldn’t be more excited. “I think whenever you go somewhere new, a part of that culture comes back with you. I would love to travel, meet people, eat food and enjoy culture and nightlife,” he tells us.

American heavy metal giants Avenged Sevenfold will perform in India for the first time as a part of the Bandland music festival.

The band is headed to Bengaluru, Karnataka – a city with a thriving rock scene – as a part of the Bandland Music Festival organized by BookMyShow on 23rd and 24th November. The singer-songwriter says he’s looking forward to seeing its impact internationally. Heavy metal can have an influence on local music scenes.

“At the end of the day, when bands from other countries come, it tells more people about it. Maybe they hear our music and think, ‘I want to start my own band,’ and that could permeate society for years to come,” Shadows shares.

As the band celebrates its 25th anniversary, Shadows feels that constant reinvention and authenticity has helped them move forward: “Once we do something on one record, we carry over from that to the next record. We have always been honest in putting out records that we believe in. We have never been victims of audience capture; We’ve made mistakes, but we’ve owned them. This creates a stronger relationship with the audience because they know we are not trying to pull the wool over their eyes.”

Considering the global appeal of their music, he emphasizes the transcendent nature of metal. “Heavy metal transcends culture and language. We have seen this across the world and I am sure India will be no different. People sing songs for us and that connection, regardless of politics or cultural divides, is what makes music so powerful,” he concluded.
