The Russo Brothers are back to direct the next film in the Avengers franchise.
In a major announcement made by Marvel, the Russo Brothers were introduced as the official directors for the next two Avengers films at San Diego Comic-Con. The superhero production has focused on the stories of established MCU characters and introduced new characters to the MCU since Avengers Endgame. But as the multiverse saga moves towards Phase 6, Marvel announced the next films in the Avengers franchise – Avengers 5 and 6.

Russo Brothers will direct Avengers 5 and 6
Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are confirmed to reprise their positions for the next films. The brothers were present at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H on Saturday, July 27, when they confirmed the news. The brothers are replacing director Destin Daniel Cretton, who left the Avengers project in November 2023 as his focus was on other Marvel projects, including a potential sequel to his previous directorial Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as reported by Variety.
The former will be scripted by Michael Waldron, who also scripted the Marvel Studios series Loki. Avengers: Secret Wars is said to be similar in style to Avengers: Endgame as it will be the concluding film of the Multiverse Saga.
The Russo brothers are no strangers to the Marvel family as their previous directorial ventures in the MCU include Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is no more
In a major moment, the next film in the Avengers franchise Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has been renamed Avengers: Doomsday, which will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars. The decision was presumably taken after actor Jonathan Majors, who plays the supervillain, was convicted of abusing his ex-girlfriend in December. The studios have now kept mum about the fate of Kang’s character after parting ways with Majors.
