Baahi.xomoy.com plays songs in Assamese, Bodo, Missing and more

Mrinmoy Kumar, founder of Assamese Music Streaming Platform, Bahi (baahi.xomoy.com), says that the idea of ​​the app came from a longing to listen to Assamese songs while staying away from home.

As a student from Tezpur, Assam, Mrmanmoy was chasing his BTech in Odisha. Some new, some old discoveries on various streaming platforms did not meet their requirement. He felt the need for a platform for those who prefer to listen to Assamese music. When he was in Odisha as a student, Mrinamoy did his research and realized that some platforms included popular albums of popular artists selected in some platforms. His focus was on making a platform dedicated to Assamese songs including Assamese Lok.

Once he returned to his hometown Tezpur, Mrinamoy started working aggressively on his idea. He recalls, “I discussed my views with some childhood friends. They immediately jumped, because my thoughts came to an echo with him. Now Krishna Kashyap and I run it.”

Bahhi currently has Assamese, Bodo, Missing, Karby, Tiva, Coach and Rajbanshi music. They are working to include the songs of the kingdom of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram.

From borgeet to rock and classics to modern pop, there is something for everyone in the platform. Founders say their user -friendly interfaces and personal recommendations make it easy for a listener to discover new music and connect with local musicians. He currently has more than 4,00,000 users of the app. “Also we have more than 2,00,000 unique website visitors every month,” Mrinmoy said.

Apart from streaming regional music, the app also fulfills original personal music. “We wanted to be a platform that allowed individual artists to introduce their music. Many independent artists do not pay attention to the lack of a platform,” Mrinmoy says.

The stage was just one idea by the end of 2020.

Mrinmoy began working on the app with the help of video coding on YouTube. “Computer Science BTEC had my background, so it was easy for me to understand. We started approaching the record label to use classics database from artists like Bhupen Hazarika. Most old songs are with record labels such as Sargama/HMVs such as we buy those songs/albums on rental rights. Doing, we were also learning about the industry, ”Mrinmoy explains. They work with the 12-member team.

The platform lists more than 30,000 songs of more than 10,000 artists in the above languages. Some of the most heard and popular artists are Zubine Garg, Papon, Diplina Deka, Prabin Borah, Bhupen Hazarika, Dwipen Barua, Khagan Mahata, Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigam (Assamese songs) etc.

Right now the app is the freemium model, where users can use the app without paying advertising and limited features. “But can buy membership for additional features and advertising free experience,” Mrinmoy said.

What next? The team also plans to launch video/audio -based podcast. Their goal is to increase water original material, the host is the second version of the second version. “We’re going to start work to introduce NE’s films soon,” Mrinmoy said.
