She plays Ali, a woman who secretly pursues her dream of becoming the first Somali-British professional boxing champion. Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders, Last Breath) Playing Jobson’s husband, Richard Moore, while Gershwin Eustache Jr. (Endor, Small Axe, Perseverance) Moore plays Ali’s boxing teacher. The real-life couple, Ali and Moore, serve as executive producers.”

Ali was the first boxer, male or female, to represent Somalia at the 2020 Olympic Games and won the first ever professional female boxing match in Saudi Arabia. In 2023, she won her first professional IBF Intercontinental title at super bantamweight at Madison Square Garden and was later recognized as a. Time Magazine’s 2023 Woman of the Year.
in the shadows The film is directed by Emmy Award-winning and three-time BAFTA Award-winning documentary filmmaker Anthony Wonke, making his first narrative film. The screenplay is written by Ursula Rani Sarma.
The film’s executive producers are Ziggy Kamasa for True Brit Entertainment, Will Clarke, Andy Mason and Mike Rungle for Altitude, Anushka Shah for Civic Studios, Richard Fern and Jane Reid Fern for Effin Films, Natasha Mudhar, Anne Sheehan, Ali and Moore for The World We Want Studios. The film will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland in 2025.
