Divya Dutta, known for her remarkable acting abilities, plays the role of Nandini in the much-awaited season two of ‘Bandish Bandits’. Nandini is a versatile music teacher with a unique philosophy that deeply impacts her students. In this special reveal, Divya shares the backstory of her character, how the role changed from its original concept, and the meaningful creative process she experienced under Anand Tiwari’s direction.
Divya explains how Nandini’s character evolved: “I think first of all, the look is very interesting. This character was initially a male character. Then Anand and I started talking. Of course, I loved the first season of Bandish Bandits and during our discussion he asked, ‘Would you do it?’ I said, ‘Sure, I’d love to, why not?’ Anand said give me 24 hours, I will come back. I think that’s when she realized that this character was always meant to be a woman, and it worked beautifully. Everything about it came together very organically on his part. The character of Nandini was carefully crafted and the credit goes entirely to Anand. I just held his hand and trusted his vision.”
Nandini’s philosophy and personality
Divya elaborates on her character’s philosophy and influence on the series: “Nandini’s philosophy of music as a guru is unique, and it is reflected in how she dresses, how she carries herself. Keeps it, and who is she? I think the gypsy vibe in her personality reflects her own independent spirit – high-flying, yet empathetic towards her students, which you can see in the trailer as well. Without giving away too much of the story, yes, Nandini is fair-minded. Anand said a beautiful thing: What he sees in Naseer saab in real life is Nandini to Shreya, Rohan and everyone else. This idea really touched my heart.”
