Guitarist-composer Sanjay Divecha, a mainstay in the world of jazz, pop and fusion, is heading to the Windmills with a trio setup for two concerts this week. The guitarist will also be joined by drummer Adrian D’Souza and bassist Shashank Das.

The program description mentions that Divecha is a core member of the supergroup Cross Currents and has shared the stage with global icons such as Zakir Hussain, Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Vinny Colaiuta and Shankar Mahadevan.

The description reads, “With an illustrious music career spanning over 35 years, Sanjay Divecha has collaborated with world-renowned artists such as Angelique Kidjo, Carlos Santana and Michael McDonald. His contribution to AR Rahman’s Oscar-winning score 127 hours and film soundtracks such as woman on Top And Leela Further highlight his versatility and talent.”

A new gig series will launch across the fandom at Gillies Redefined in 2025, with the first edition of Break the Noise curated by indie singer-songwriters The Mangas. This time the lineup includes New York-based Indian artist Chef Kiss, rock band Rascals of the First Order and singer-songwriter Aamir Rizvi.

Rizvi took to Instagram to talk about the concert, saying, “My first show at BLR is all about original music and I’m so excited to be back with Mangas, Chef’s Kiss, Matthew Pannacle.”

A description from the organizers states that Break the Noise is about “breaking the monotony of normal weekend plans”. It further states, “It is a bi-monthly live music event that invites the vibrant youth of Bangalore to immerse themselves in raw, electrified energy.” Curation for future editions will continue to focus on the rock and punk bands on each lineup.

The ongoing songwriter sessions at Pizza Express are continuing into the new year, this time with a diverse lineup. Hip-hop, pop and R&B-savvy duo Ranj Talking about the intimate show, organizer Brave Cave says, “We want to include songwriters from different genres, languages ​​and any other division to highlight the art of storytelling through music.”

Globe-trotting band Cacha Mundinho (which translates from Portuguese to “grab a small world”) is heading to Bengaluru this week for an intimate, collaborative set at The Blue Room.

Known for drawing inspiration from Portuguese and Iberian musical traditions, Cacha Mundinho travels through North Africa and the Middle East to India and Brazil. The band is led by Joana Almeida, considered one of Portugal’s first female, classical fado guitarists. An event description states, “She composes original works in the Portuguese language, inspired by fado and traditional Portuguese troubadour songs, but with her own unique and contemporary take on the tradition. Elements of Portuguese, Middle Eastern, African, Brazilian and Indian music are combined with the improvisational agility of top-class jazz.

The Amsterdam-based act also includes percussionist Sjahin Düring, Maripa Contreras on oboe/duduk and Pedro Ivo Ferreira on double bass. However, in India, Cacha Mundinho’s Joanna and Sajahin will collaborate with Amith Nadig on Carnatic flute and Aman Mahajan on piano, “for a special crossover experience of their music,” the description said.

As part of a three-city tour organized by Social Offline and AMNAP (Always Make Noise and Party) Records, UK grime and hip-hop will hit the city in Bengaluru this week with veteran artists like Killa P and MC Solomon. He will be supported by Indian DJ-producers like Yung.Raj, Big Trouble aka Tanush Hegde and Ira Bibi aka Ira Banerjee.

Killa P last toured India in early 2024 and is best known for being pioneers of the UK grime movement and being part of crews like Roll Deep and Cemetery Warriors.
