Raksha BandhanRakhi festival, which has a prominent place among Hindu festivals, will be celebrated on 19 August this year. It is believed that tying a Raksha Sutra strengthens the relationship between brother and sister. This year Bhadra Kaal will last till noon on 19 August. During Bhadra Kaal, sisters do not tie Rakhi on their brothers’ wrists.
According to Jyotishacharya Parduman Suri, it is important to ensure that the festival is celebrated during the auspicious time. The Panchang consists of five major components: Tithi (date), Vaar (day), Yoga (auspicious time), Nakshatra (constellation), and Karana (half of the day). Bhadra is also associated with the Panchang. Tying a Rakhi during Bhadra Kaal can adversely affect the brother-sister relationship. Therefore, the right time to tie a Rakhi is determined by the Panchang and astrology.

According to mythology, Bhadra is the sister of Shani Dev. Goddess Bhadra has a destructive nature, which is why it is considered advisable to tie a Rakhi outside Bhadra Kaal. Another popular story tells that Bhadra Kaal is named after Lord Vishnu’s son Bhadra, who is the brother of Goddess Parvati. Lord Vishnu’s son Bhadra was appointed as a gatekeeper by Lord Shiva and instructed to stay away during any auspicious works. Therefore, no auspicious work is done during Bhadra Kaal.
