‘Black Warrant’ Trailer: Zahaan Kapoor’s rookie cop steps into India’s most dangerous prison

Billed as ‘a kickass start to 2025’, Netflix on Friday unveiled the trailer of its upcoming prison drama series, black warrantCreated and show-helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, the series will premiere on the platform on January 10.

In the trailer, we see Sunil Kumar Gupta (Zhaan Kapoor) stepping into a world that he is unaware of. As the newly-appointed Assistant Jail Superintendent, he says he has been entrusted with three important responsibilities – maintenance, supervision and control – all of which are bound to take a toll as he is posted in one of the most inefficient jails in the country : Tihar Jail.

“Sunil Gupta unwittingly steps into the jaws of a system where power and prestige reign supreme and demand the price of survival. Along with him, his two trusted fellow jailers face the notorious prisoners and entrenched politics of Tihar. Apart from grit and determination, this trio faces huge challenges within Tihar. This never-before-seen account explores the deeply personal stories of prisoners, officers and their complex dynamics. Will they be able to challenge the system and bring about change for the better, or will Tihar change them? Read the logline.

Motwani said this in a statement black warrant Gave him the opportunity to explore a hidden world that is difficult, complex and full of contradictions. “Sunil’s visit to Tihar Jail provided a unique perspective to capture that complexity. The trailer is just a glimpse of how the series will layer a world that’s as complex and fun as it is brutal. Collaborating with our stellar cast brought incredible nuance to this story, and partnering with Netflix, Applause Entertainment and Confluence Media allowed us to create a story that is raw, entertaining and deeply human. I can’t wait for audiences to uncover the humanity and grit within this powerful narrative,” he said.

The series stars Rahul Bhatt, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur and Siddhant Gupta. Rajshree Deshpande, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Rajendra Gupta will be in special roles.

Motwane and Satyanshu Singh also serve as directors along with Ambika Pandit, Arkesh Ajay and Rohin Ravindran Nair. The series is produced by Andolan Productions in association with Confluence Media and presented by Applause Entertainment.
