Actress Blake Lively says the goal of bringing Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel “It Ends With Us” to the big screen was to serve its fans.

At the romantic drama’s London premiere on Thursday, Lively said adapting the novel into a film was “a huge responsibility, but also an opportunity.”

The actor said, “When you get to serve a group of people who are so passionate about the source material…to be able to serve people who care about them so much is beautiful.”

In the film, Lively plays Lily Bloom, a Boston-based florist who falls in love with handsome neurosurgeon Riley Kincaid, played by Justin Baldoni, who also directed the film.

As their relationship grows more serious, Ryle begins to show traits reminiscent of Lily’s father’s abusive behavior, triggering her childhood trauma and forcing Lily to make tough decisions about her future in order to break a toxic pattern.

Lively, who made her directorial debut with Taylor Swift’s “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” music video, receives a producer credit for the first time on “It Ends with Us.”

She said, “I used to feel like an imposter, because I would see actors who were just impersonators. And then I realized that half of the actors that I admire the most are people who have to try their hand at storytelling and writing and creating, and I thought, oh, well, there’s two different categories and I’m in this category, and that’s fine.”

She added, “Once I started to embrace it and grow into it and not feel ashamed about it, I think I was able to do the best work I could. And that’s why I’m so proud of this movie.”

“It Ends With Us” began its global cinematic release on August 7 and will release in US and UK theaters on August 9.
