Blake Lively was surrounded by a lot of controversy after her hit film It Ends With Us hit theaters. All of this drama and negative attention shocked the actress and she was upset by it. The controversial drama started with rumors of a feud with the film’s co-star and director Justin Baldoni, which kept Lively under scrutiny for the next few weeks. She was criticized for her methods of promoting the film in comparison to Baldoni and for her comments in both new and old interviews.

Blake Lively ‘shocked’ by ‘It Ends With Us’ controversy
A source told People that Lively was “quite shocked by the backlash and drama” that unfolded with the film’s release last month. “Initially she felt very vulnerable and upset. During promotion for the film, not a day went by that she wasn’t in the news in an unfavorable light. She’s not used to this kind of drama,” the source told the media outlet.
The source added that Lively “felt out of control” during the entire situation. However, she “loves working and will continue to pursue projects she’s passionate about.”
Lively played the lead character Lily Bloom and was also a producer of the film. The film has since become the highest-grossing film of the actress’ career to date. Rumors arose on the night of the film’s premiere, when Lively and Baldoni did not pose with each other.
It was also said that the two were not seen promoting the film together again. Fingers were also pointed at the film’s marketing campaign, claiming that it was misleading given the sensitive topic of domestic violence in the film.

Brandon Sklenar supports Lively amid drama
While the controversy started with one co-star, Lively’s other co-star Brandon Sklenar came to her defense. Sklenar spoke out against the “negativity” directed toward the women of the film’s cast. He wrote on Instagram, “Defaming the women who put their heart and soul into making this film because they believe so strongly in its message seems counterproductive and distracts from what this film is all about. It’s, in fact, the opposite of the point.”
It Ends With Us grossed $300 million at the box office worldwide. The film is based on Colleen Hoover’s book of the same name. She has also written a sequel to the book, which Baldoni has the rights to turn into a film. However, the actor had previously said that if a sequel is made, Lively should direct it. Nothing has been confirmed yet about the making of the sequel.
