Online ticket aggregator BookMyShow on Thursday (October 3, 2024) said it has filed an FIR over black marketing of tickets for the show of British band Coldplay.
In a statement, the company said it was assessing the possible cancellation of tickets being sold “unethically”.
“In the ongoing fight against ticket scalping and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, BookMyShow has filed a formal FIR (First Information Report) on October 2, 2024.
“This action follows our initial complaint proactively filed with the Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024, which addressed these concerns long before any formal complaint was filed against us. Mumbai Police BookMyShow’s FIR also urges authorities to investigate unauthorized resale of tickets by individuals and platforms,” the statement read.
The much-anticipated Coldplay concert to be held in Mumbai in January 2025 has been clouded by ticket scam concerns as millions of fans vie for a limited number of tickets and took to social media to express their anger.
Some tickets were later being sold in the black market at exorbitant prices, prompting the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police to investigate.
The band will play three shows at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21 next year as part of their “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025”.
Earlier this week, Mumbai Police had recorded the statement of Anil Makhija, Chief Operating Officer of BookMyShow, in connection with a complaint.
The company clarified that Coldplay’s performances in India will go ahead as planned. “Reports to the contrary are factually incorrect,” it said.
BookMyShow said it has provided details of all resellers that have come to its attention, including independent individuals reselling tickets on social media platforms.
“We remain vigilant in monitoring such cases of re-selling of tickets for this tour through black market channels and will continue to share all relevant information with the authorities to ensure appropriate action,” it added.
