Border 2 Exclusive: Ahan Shetty opens up on Suniel Shetty’s casting twist and Mana Shetty’s emotional relationship with Border, Nidhi Dutta reveals…

Limit 2: Ahan Shetty’s role in Border 2 holds great significance for father Suniel Shetty as it forms a meaningful generational connection to the original film Border which was released in 1997. In the iconic film, Sunil played the role of Bhairon Singh Rathore who was posted at Longewala Post in the Thar Desert of Jaisalmer. It was the result of the courage of Bhairon’s team that a Pakistani brigade and tank regiment was destroyed on December 5, 1971. In 1972, Bhairon was awarded the Sena Medal. Keeping in mind the powerful character played by Sunil, Ahan’s participation in the sequel not only carries forward his father’s legacy but also symbolizes the continuation of the values like patriotism, courage that defined Border.

In an exclusive conversation with ZEE News, Ahan Shetty recalled that he was not even two years old when Border hit the theatres. “Border was released in 1997 and I was born in 1995. I was just one and a half years old when the film was released. I remember watching it not in the theatre, but on cassette at home. There were no DVDs at that time. When I watched it for the first time, I fell in love with the Indian Army, which I always wanted to join.” In Ahan’s words, it is an indescribably proud personal achievement for star Suniel Shetty to see him as a part of Border 2. “Border is very special because it started my journey of thinking about becoming an actor. It’s an incredibly special film, and one of the biggest films in terms of who Sunil Shetty is today. My father’s character Bhairon Singh Rathore is not only popular, but also powerful and strong. My father often says that people know him because of Border. When I asked him this morning how he felt about it ahead of the release of Border 2, he said, ‘Border was huge for me and now it’s possible for you to do the same. The second film is something I can’t describe in words, I think once the reactions come out, I’ll really know how and what I’m feeling.’

When asked if Sunil will also be seen in the film, Ahan clarified that unfortunately that is not the case. “Unfortunately, no, because Border 2 revolves around the 1971 war and depicts a different battle than what was shown in the original film. My father’s character in Border was based on the Battle of Longewala. I know many people thought I would play Bhairon’s son, but that’s not part of the story.”

Talking about his father’s preparations for the border, Ahaan admits that he doesn’t know much, except that Sunil was a little hesitant in accepting the offer. “I know he didn’t want to do Border because he had heard that JP sir was very strict and firm on the sets. Dad was unsure about the rapport with JP sir.” But Ahaan’s grandmother encouraged him to at least meet the filmmaker as she felt the project was important. “And then my grandmother intervened. The first day my father met JP sir, they developed a good friendship. To this day, they are close friends.”

Ahan also revealed that his mother Mana Shetty is very emotional about Border 2. Even though Mann doesn’t express her views openly, it feels surreal to see her son being a part of such an important film. “My mother was waiting for me when I went to the sets of Border, which makes that moment extremely meaningful for her. She often tells me, ‘When your father was shooting Border 2, I was taking you. Almost 30 years later, I see you as a part of its sequel, and it feels amazing.’

According to Ahaan, his mother has been very impressed by his journey from the release of his first film ‘Tadap’ to where he is today. He admits that he has not yet sat down to discuss his feelings in detail. “She has seen my journey since the release of Tadap. I haven’t really sat down and talked to her about it. Right now everyone is a little nervous about the release. Once it hits the theatres, I will have a heart-to-heart with her about what she is feeling and how this journey has impacted her.”
