Ozempic, a type 2 diabetes drug, has made showbiz headlines. Scene-stealing actor Jesse Plemons’ weight loss journey may have been suspiciously linked to the weight loss tool’s growing popularity in Hollywood. However, he eventually addressed the elephant in the room by denying any claims of taking it to gain weight.
The Breaking Bad star also couldn’t deny the questionable timing of his procedure. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times he said, “It’s really unfortunate that I decided to get healthy when everybody decided to take Ozempic.” Still, the 36-year-old acclaimed actor who last had an eyebrow-raising cameo in A24’s Civil War led by his wife Kirsten Dunst, dismissed the Ozempic rumors, saying, “It doesn’t matter, everybody will think I took Ozempic anyway.”

Jesse Plemons finally opens up about why and how he began his weight loss journey
Clearing any misconceptions about his recent turn to fitness, the Love and Death actor said his decision wasn’t driven by thoughts of wanting to look a certain way. Instead, his age and his role in the 2024 post-apocalyptic war drama Civil War inspired him to continue down that path.
Plemons previously gained attention after gaining weight for his role as Kevin Weeks in Black Mass (2015).
“It had to do with aging and — I hate to even get specific because then it becomes a whole thing, but there was a part that I did that in my mind I couldn’t imagine him in the shape that I was,” Plemons said, alluding to his infamous cameo in Civil War .
As for how the acclaimed star ultimately began her fitness journey, she told the media outlet that after multiple recommendations for intermittent fasting, she “tried it out and… [was] I was surprised at how quickly it took effect.”

According to this method of weight loss, people often fast intermittently, following a strict schedule of time-restricted eating while the rest of the day is spent fasting. The Mayo Clinic explains it this way, “Intermittent fasting means you don’t eat for a period of time each day or week.”
Plemons explained that once he adopted this regimen, he “felt like I got into a rhythm, I felt better, and something changed in my mind. I could kind of get over it.”
Despite being apprehensive that Kinds of Kindness director Yorgos Lanthimos might want a “bigger me”, Plemons admitted that his weight loss ultimately worked for the role.
