Britney Spears’ best-selling autobiography The Woman in Me traces the singer’s journey from child star to global pop icon.
A Britney Spears biopic is in the works after Universal Pictures bought the rights to the pop star’s best-selling autobiography, the Hollywood studio announced Thursday.
“Crazy Rich Asians” Director Jon Chu has been attached to develop and direct the film based on Spears’ recent autobiographical book “The Woman in Me,” the company said in a statement to AFP.
It said Universal had won a “highly competitive auction” for the film adaptation rights, with “La La Land” producer Marc Platt set to oversee the project.

Spears herself posted on social media on Thursday, “So excited to share with my fans that I’m working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He has always made some of my favorite movies.”
“Stay tuned,” he told fans.
“The Woman in Me” highlights the singer’s journey from child star to global pop star, as well as her subsequent public breakdown and legal battle with her father.
The book, full of criticism of an industry that controls its family and ruthlessly destroys talent, sold more than 2.5 million copies in the United States alone after its publication last October.
