When reporters asked her about the outfit, she said, “This is Britney’s actual dress. It should be in the Smithsonian or the Met. But it’s on me. I feel so lucky!” according to People.
On Saturday, the Gimme More singer shared a video of herself on Instagram wearing a short sparkly pink and blue dress. She described it as an “updated version” of a Versace gown she once wore. “Updated version of my 2002 Versace dress!!! I like it better… it shows my legs!!!” she captioned the post, which was set to the tune of Your Love from the Outfield.

However, Spears’ post soon drew criticism from netizens who called out the singer for throwing shade at Lively. The Oops I Did It Again hitmaker quickly changed the caption to “Updated version of my 2002 Versace dress!!! I’m not @blakelively but I like it… show off my legs.” Despite her efforts to save the situation, fans continued to criticise her for being “hateful” towards someone who paid tribute. She has since deleted the caption.
An ex-Twitter user shared a screenshot of Spears’ now-deleted caption, along with the message, “Britney Spears returns to Instagram and calls out Blake Lively for wearing a 2002 Versace dress to the ‘It Ends With Us’ premiere. This woman is insane!” The tweet has been viewed over 30,000 times, and other users have expressed similar opinions.
Another user wrote, “She attacked Halsey for paying tribute and now Blake. Attacked Selena Gomez after she invited her to her flop wedding. Body shamed Xtina and her dancers. Just weird, sad and insecure. And she looks as messed up as ever.” Meanwhile, a third added, “Britney needs to calm down from trying to attack everyone who pays tribute to her… we’re tired.”
