BTS Jin drops Gucci: Website reportedly crashes after global ambassador announcement

BTS’ Jin, who has completed his mandatory military service, has taken on the role of luxury brand ambassador. The band’s oldest member was announced as the global face of Italian luxury brand Gucci on August 8. The impact of this much-anticipated collaboration was so strong that it reportedly crashed a website in Japan. Known for having the largest K-pop fan following, Japan also has a huge following of Jin’s solo stans, which contributed to the overwhelming response.

Gucci’s Japan website crashes after Jin becomes ambassador

Soon after his appointment as Fred Jewellery’s global ambassador, Jin has been introduced as Gucci’s new brand representative. The Italian fashion house wasted no time in securing the popular BTS member, whose immense global appeal is undoubtedly a huge success for the brand. The official announcement on August 8 shocked fans, as Gucci’s Japanese website temporarily crashed due to heavy traffic.

Fans shared their joy on the internet, saying that when it comes to Jin, an overwhelming response is almost inevitable in Japan. It seems like the country is very fond of this BTS member. A few weeks ago, a similar situation happened with Paris-based luxury jewelry brand FRED. Within an hour of announcing the singer as their brand ambassador, the website experienced an unprecedented surge in traffic, causing it to temporarily crash, as reported by AllKpop.

It didn’t take long for the internet to dub this series of website crashes the “gin effect,” with many jokingly warning brands to prepare themselves for this new normal. Fans eagerly shared how they rushed to the website to buy stuff simply because of the gin association. While the website cited technical issues, the crashes at both FRED and Gucci are more than just glitches.

“Seokjin’s fans in Japan are really something else,” one user commented. “This is the Kim Seokjin effect / This is the magic of Kim Seokjin,” another wrote. “When Fred announced Jin as their first global ambassador the website crashed within minutes and now when Gucci announced Jin as their global ambassador Gucci’s website crashed and broke down too,” another added. “Seokjin’s girls are already buying gifts for themselves at Gucci stores, his influence.”

BTS High Profile Brand Ambassadorship

With the recent announcement, all seven BTS members are now representing top luxury brands globally. Jin has joined Gucci and Fred Joaillier, while RM represents Bottega Veneta. J-Hope is the face of Louis Vuitton, a brand that all seven members were once ambassadors of, but the contract later went to him alone. Jimin is with Dior and Tiffany & Co., V represents Celine and Cartier, Suga has partnerships with Valentino and the NBA, and Jungkook is the face of Calvin Klein Jeans.
