During a recent interview with the Sunday Times, she opened up about the dark side of her past, revealing a battle with substance abuse that began at a shockingly young age. Having not touched alcohol since 2022, she openly discussed her journey to quit drinking. She also spoke about the devastating fire that engulfed her home in Los Angeles in March, causing millions in damages.
Cara Delevingne opens up about her early struggle with alcohol
Model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne, who took the fashion industry by storm with her first runway show for Burberry in 2011, recently revealed that she first drank alcohol at the age of 8. Cara revealed that it was her aunt’s wedding in 2001 and, despite being a minor, ‘I drank alcohol that day,’ she recalled. ‘I was eight, what a crazy age to be drunk.’”
“I used to think that drugs and alcohol helped me cope,” she told the outlet. “But they didn’t, they kept me unhappy and very depressed. I feel like I have my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things.”

In 2022, the model decided to give up her previous habits and embarked on a journey of sobriety. However, she revealed that she had no problem hanging out with friends at parties that included alcohol. Now she attends all parties, events, and festivals drunk. She recently recalled attending the Glastonbury festival without drinking and feeling exhausted, unable to stay awake for long. Despite this, she admitted that it was fun and expressed her desire to maintain her new lifestyle.
The incident that inspired him to quit drinking
According to People, the 31-year-old described an incident where she saw paparazzi clicking her photos after the 2022 Burning Man Festival. She revealed that it was a serious ‘wake-up’ call for her.
“Listen, I signed up for this, it’s my job, it’s what I do. But without it would I be sober now? I would never have become Sally Bowles in the West End, I’m very proud of that,” she said, referring to her recent role.

On March 15, reports surfaced that the model’s Studio City, California home caught fire. Cara suffered a significant financial setback; however, she mentioned that if she hadn’t stayed calm, she would still be struggling with the situation.
“It will still affect me very deeply. Of course it affected me, it’s very sad,” she said. “It will never go away. But I don’t use it as a tool to keep myself unhappy.”
