The makers of ‘L2: Empuraan’ have allegedly agreed to implement the change in the film following concerns over the 2002 Gujarat riots depiction. According to the Times of India, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has ordered 17 editing at Mohanlal-Starrer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
CBFC intervention in ‘L2: Empuran’
With the CBFC’s Kerala team reviewing the film and requesting necessary editing, changes come after intervention from the Center. If the revised version of ‘L2: Empuraan’ is presented by Monday, the film will be approved for screening within the next few days.
The manufacturer of ‘L2’ agrees to cut
The producers of the film, led by Gokulam Gopalan, have confirmed the desire to comply with. Talking to TOI, Gopalan said that he has instructed director Prithviraj Sukumaran to modify any scenes or dialogues, which can hurt emotions.
According to ANI, 17 changes include changes in riot sequences and violent scenes. The film depicts the 2002 Gujarat riots, where one of the criminals is shown as the main antagonist – a portrayal that led the political dispute in Kerala.

Despite the controversy, ‘L2: Empuraan’ is setting box office records. According to Sacnilk.com, the film has become the fastest Malayalam film of ₹ 100 crore worldwide in just two days.
Additionally, ‘L2: Empuran’ has made history as the highest grossing Malayalam film at the foreign box office.
