Chaitra Navratri is a sacred nine -day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine divine forms. In 2025, Chaitra Navratri will begin on March 30 and end on 7 April, in which Rama Navami will mark the last day. Devotees look at this auspicious period with great devotion, perform priests, fast, and seek blessings. However, to ensure a spiritually complete and auspicious celebration, it is important to follow some dos and dons.
DOS during Chaitra Navratri 2025
1. Observe fasting with discipline
Many devotees fast during Navratri to purify their body and soul. Setwicks (pure) foods such as fruits, milk, nuts, and fasting grains such as a type of grain (kuttu), water chestnut flour (lion’s Etah), and equivalent rice.
2. Offer daily prayer and aarti
Worship Goddess Durga and her nine forms with dedication. Read the mantras like “Om Dum Durgaya Namah” to take the morning and evening performance Aarti, chanting Durga Sapatashati, and divine blessings.
3. Keep your house clean and holy
Cleanliness is important during Navratri as it invites positive energy. Decorate the place of worship with flowers, lamps and rangoli. Keep burning unbroken light (eternal flame) throughout the festival.
4. Follow a true lifestyle
Practice self-discipline, avoid negative thoughts, and engage in spiritual activities like meditation and hymns. Helping the needy and donations (Anna Dan) is considered extremely meritorious.
5. Break your fast properly
On the last day (Navami), break your fast after the performance of Kanya Pujan (worshiping nine young girls symbolizing Goddess Durga). Offer food like Puri, Halwa and Chana, and seek their blessings.
Chaitra Navratri not during 2025
1. Avoid tamasic (impure) foods
Non-vegetarian food, onion, garlic, alcohol, and processed or stale food should be avoided. They are considered unclean and can disrupt the purity of the festival.
2. Do not cut nails, hair or beard
It is believed that cutting nails, hair, or shaving during Navratri reduces positive energy and spiritual development. Avoid such activities to maintain purity.
3. Avoid sleeping late and being lazy
Waking up early (Brahma Murat) and attachment to prayers and meditation increases spiritual energy. Avoid sleeping during the day, as it is believed that the drain of positivity.
4. Do not use or argue
Navratri is the time of peace and devotion. Avoid logic, negative speeches and conflicts. Maintain a calm and harmonious atmosphere at home.
5. Avoid wearing black or dark clothes
Black is considered inauspicious during Navratri. Instead, wear bright colors like red, yellow, green and white, which are associated with various forms of Goddess Durga.
6. Do not ignore the urn and unbroken light
If you have established a Kalash (holy pot) and unbroken light, make sure that they are undivided and properly in the entire festival. They are considered inauspicious to neglect.
