When you hear Karthik Aryan as Muralikant Petkar saying, ‘I am not Chandu, I am the champion’, you can feel the strength and determination in his voice. In this sports biopic, Karthik Aryan and Kabir Khan present the story of Muralikant Petkar reaching his peak after a lot of struggle. Produced by Nadiadwala Grandsons, the film takes you back in time to the 1970s when Muralikant Petkar finally reached his destination of becoming a Paralympic champion.
the story
The film begins with the 1965 war in which Muralikant Petkar is shot. The scene then cuts to 40 years later when an old man comes to the police station to file a fraud case against the President of India. Many questions start to arise:- Who is Muralikant, what does he do and why did he register this case? With these questions the story moves into a flashback, where young Muralikant is shocked to see Petkar, an Olympic medalist in wrestling.
People mock his ambition and dream of becoming a wrestler and he later becomes a laughing stock among his peers and villagers. This movie has many catchy songs, which will surely bring a smile on your face. Filmmaker Kabir Khan has used every song brilliantly. Every song has a background and tells a story through its lyrics. Muralikant’s initial struggle will remind you of the movie Bhaag Milka Bhaag. The story progresses as a kid grows up to join the army, but also aims to win an Olympic gold medal someday.
Despite being hit by 9 bullets and attempting suicide after losing his only friend, he survived. Despite being shot in the body, he became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the Paralympics. Karthik Aaryan’s story of Chandu Champion is a heartwarming story that shows that anything can be achieved with passion and determination.

Karthik Aryan has played a complex character very well. His eagerness, sincerity and curiosity in playing the character of Muralikant is clearly visible. Karthik Aryan’s performance in Chandu Champion is something people will remember for a long time as compared to previous films. He has captured every emotion in every scene very well. Despite not having a female lead, every scene in the film is so enthralling that no one will be able to take their eyes off the screen for a minute.
Vijay Raj who grabbed headlines in Soorma and Shabaash Mithu managed to do the same this time as well. His character of Tiger Ali will make you laugh but also emotional. Despite Shreyas Talpade and Brijendra Kala’s presence on the small screen, they managed to grab attention with their amazing acting skills. Rajpal Yadav as Pukhraj is brilliant and earns his place as the comedy king. Bhuvan Arora won everyone’s heart by playing the role of Muralikant’s true partner. Anirudh Dave plays the role of the brother, while Himanshu Jakar plays the younger Muralikant. Both the characters have played their respective characters well in the film. Interestingly, Milka Singh is also mentioned in the beginning of the film.
The song ‘Satyanas’ reminds of the song ‘Havan Karega’ from ‘Bhaag Milka Bhaag’. This 2 hour 30 minute film will keep the audience riveted with the excellent acting of director Kabir Khan. The director has made his mark with films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek Tha Tiger and with this sports biopic he has set a new standard. Every character has been given excellent screen time.
The movie is thrilling and you won’t want to leave your seat even for a moment. Cinematography The cinematography of the film is definitely one of the things that should be appreciated. The film features a shot in which a plane passes directly in front of the sun and ends with the sun turning into a ball of the Japanese flag.

Chandu Champion is a movie to watch. It is a surprise to see Karthik Aryan in a never seen before avatar. Despite being a biopic, the film also delivers a full dose of entertainment. Out of five, we give Chandu Champion four stars.
