Chaos in IndiGo flight: Sonu Sood appealed to passengers to remain calm, did not target ground staff

Mumbai: After chaos broke out at several airports in India due to delays and cancellations of IndiGo flights, actor Sonu Sood has urged passengers to remain “calm” and stop “targeting” airline ground staff.

Thousands of passengers have been stranded due to the disruptions, leading to heated arguments and screams inside the terminals, many of which are now being broadcast on social media. Over the past few days, several videos have gone viral showing angry passengers confronting staff members and demanding clarity on flight schedules.

Sood shared a video message on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday morning, condemning the behavior of the passengers who were seen shouting at the airline staff. Explaining that he understands the “frustration” and “pain” caused by long delays, he urged people to be kind to workers who are equally “helpless”.

“Friends, this video is a small message for those who have been facing problems with IndiGo flights for the last 2-3 days. My own family was travelling, and they had to wait for 4.5-5 hours. Then, finally the flight took off and reached its destination. Many flights did not take off, many were cancelled, and many people could not attend weddings. Meetings were cancelled, events were cancelled.”

“But the saddest thing was that people were shouting at the ground staff at the airports. I know such situations are frustrating, painful and you vent out your anger. But imagine yourself in their place. People who are helpless don’t know what the future schedule is, whether the flights will take off or not. And the people who get the messages from above can only convey them to you,” Sood added.

Sood further said, “…being responsible citizens, it is very important for us to ensure that we do not react to them because they are helpless and have no answer. Please try to remain calm. Control your anger and respect them.”

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday ordered the formation of a high-level, four-member committee to comprehensively review and evaluate the circumstances that led to widespread operational disruption at IndiGo Airlines in recent days.
