Hollywood star Charlize Theron says Netflix has stopped post-production on the action drama The Old Guard 2The release of the film has been delayed but its sequel will come soon.
Written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, The Old Guard released in 2020 and became one of the most popular movies ever to hit the streaming platform.
Theron, who played Andy/Andromache the Scythian who leads a group of immortal warriors fighting for justice, said the follow-up film finished shooting about two years ago. It suffered a long delay due to a change in Netflix leadership.
“There were a lot of changes at Netflix. We got caught up in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks later,” he said. DiversityActors and writers’ strikes also played a role in pushing the film back.
The Oscar winner added, “They were going through a lot of changes, and I completely understand that. We finally started it again and I’m so excited about it. It’s really good… It’s coming out soon… It’s a really important movie for us. I only wanted to do it if we could make it amazing. I really love the movie.”
Upon its release, The Old GuardBased on a comic book series by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernandez, the film was praised for its brilliant female-led action sequences and background score.
The film follows a small group of immortal soldiers, led by Andy, who have been working as mercenaries for centuries. But the group is shocked when they find a new immortal woman, shortly after they learn that a rogue group has video proof of their immortality.

The second chapter is directed by Victoria Mahoney and also stars Theron, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor, alongside Uma Thurman and Henry Golding.
Theron also produced the action drama through her company Denver & Delilah, alongside Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.
