The 22nd Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) is scheduled to take place later this month. The festival will commence on December 12, 2024 and the screenings will continue till December 19, with the opening and closing ceremonies scheduled to take place at PVR Satyam Cinemas.
A total of 25 films have been selected by the Preview Committee for the Tamil Film Competition category and 12 films have been selected for the World Cinema category. The awards of Tamil Film Competition and World Cinema Competition will be unveiled during the closing ceremony.
123 films selected from 50 countries will be shown in the festival the room next door by Pedro Almodovar and Anora Chosen by Shawn Baker as the opening and closing films respectively.

Embassies and cultural institutions of various countries have also contributed to the festival. Australian Consulate General presents two critically acclaimed Australian films, my melbourne (14th December, 12:15 pm on Six Degrees PVR Satyam Cinemas)And Force of Nature – Dry 2 (December 13, 10 am at PVR Inox City Center Mall). Other countries include Germany, Spain, Thailand, Iran, Russia, France, Chile, Hungary, Slovakia, Peru and Slovenia.
A total of 16 films were selected by the Preview Committee under the Indian Panorama category and 10 films by Diploma students of MGR Film and Television Institute, Government of Tamil Nadu will be screened at the festival.
The festival will have special premieres of more than 5 films as part of ‘Master Talks’. As a part of this initiative by Festival Director, AVM K Shanmugam, the film directors and crew will be felicitated and will also share a short interaction with the audience.
A set of over 10 sessions with eminent personalities from the film industry has been planned to conduct a series of masterclasses and interactions for the student community. The Department of Visual Communication, Avicii College of Arts & Sciences will manage and organize the masterclasses and conversations.
