Chris Hemsworth recalls incident of Indian fans throwing popcorn in the air while watching Avengers: ‘Never seen anything like it before’

Five years ago, fans at a theatre in India celebrated Thor’s entry in Avengers: Infinity War by throwing popcorn in the air. It is an enduring image and like nothing they have ever seen before, says actor Chris Hemsworth, whose superhero role catapulted him to stardom. Chris Hemsworth said on Indian fans

“I love India. I love the Indian fans,” the Hollywood star told PTI. He added that the footage of that screening comes to his mind whenever he visits India. India is where he shot a significant portion of his 2020 film Extraction.

“I remember the ‘bring me Thanos’ moment during Infinity War. There was footage of a cinema hall in India where that happened and people were throwing popcorn and cheering, I had never seen anything like that before. Every time I go to India, I think about that moment,” the Australian actor said in a virtual interview.

The scene features the actor as Thor, who makes a grand entrance during a battle sequence in the 2018 film and challenges the enemy forces and the film’s main villain Thanos, saying “Bring me Thanos”. It is considered one of the most memorable moments in Chris’ portrayal of the iconic superhero, whom he has played in four standalone films and four Avengers films.

On headlining Transformers One

The Hollywood superstar has now joined another fan-favourite franchise, Transformers. He appears as a voice actor in Transformers One and hopes that the film will be similarly loved by audiences in India as well.

The animated film Transformers One, which released in Indian theatres last week, is a prequel to the previous live-action films in the franchise that revolves around two factions of alien robots, the Autobots and the Decepticons, who have the ability to transform into vehicles and machines, and are engaged in an eternal war.

The actor, who voices the Autobots’ leader Optimus Prime, said the animated film has the same energy as the MCU. “The themes in it are relevant to audiences around the world. And it has a great sense of humor and a depth of heart that is wonderful to watch. This movie is truly epic and we are all extremely proud of it,” Chris said.

Touted as the “first fully CG-animated Transformers movie”, the film tells the untold story of Optimus Prime and Megatron’s friendship before they became arch enemies and leaders of their respective groups. Chris said he recently watched the film and was stunned by what director Josh Cooley has done.

“(That’s) the reason you go to the movies, to go to another universe and be exposed to characters that are larger than life, but at the same time be able to relate to them. I think people in India will love that,” the actor said. Transformers One also features voices from actors like Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.

The film from Paramount Pictures India is currently running in theatres in English and Hindi as well as in 2D, 3D, 4DX and IMAX formats.
