Cine staff body called Netflix, prime video to ban Turkish show on Prime Video

Mumbai:

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the streaming platforms, including Netflix, Prime Video and Georotstar, to boycott the Turkish show after the country’s support for Pakistan with India.

In a statement released on Thursday, the organization said that they are “standing firmly for the interest of nation and industry”.

“We are writing to express our serious concern and strong objections about the constant streaming and promotion of the Turkish show on various over-the-top (OTT) platforms operated in India.

“As well known, Turkey has consistently enhanced diplomatic and political support in Pakistan on matters that are harmful to India’s sovereignty and national interest, including sensitive issues such as Kashmir,” FWIS said.

Union Body, which represents workers, technicians and artists of 36 separate crafts working in the Indian media and entertainment industry, said it is not in India’s best interest to allow a nation’s content in India that does not support its regional integrity to consume widely by Indian audiences.

FWIC urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to consider taking necessary action to boycott or ban the Indian OTT platforms to boycott or ban Turkish television shows and streaming of films.

“Such a step will not only send a strong message globally, but will also promote Indian content and support the large workforce of our domestic entertainment industry. We hope that the Ministry will take the cognizance of the matter with seriousness that is worthy of it and will take appropriate steps in the national interest,” said this.

Turkish plays such as Binbir Gay, as the crow blows, another self, Yabani, Terror, Location and Creature gained popularity in India in the early 2000s.

This development comes when Turkey criticized India’s strike on the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and in vengeance for the Pahgam terror attack to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. Islamabad also used Turkish drone in the struggle.

After its support to Pakistan, calls to boycott Turkish goods and tourism have surfaced across India, issuing advice against going to online travel platforms like Ishactrip and ixigo.
