A Coldplay concert scheduled to take place in Mumbai in January 2025 has left thousands of Indian fans disappointed as tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment.
The band had previously announced two concerts, but after seeing a surge in ticket sales, they announced a third show, which also sold out in minutes.
Jai (name changed), a 23-year-old student from Hyderabad, joined the booking queue on Book My Show as soon as tickets opened at 12 noon. His queue number was 10,67,672 (10.6 lakh). Despite quickly reaching close to 50,000, he got the message ‘Sold Out’. Jai’s experience was similar to thousands of others across the country.
Ramya, a corporate employee from Hyderabad, was also trying to book tickets. She had initially joined the queue at 9,80,135th place. “In a few minutes, I reached 20,000 and thought I had a chance. But suddenly, BookMyShow kicked me out, and by the time I logged back in, all the tickets were sold out,” she said.
Tax consultant Rahul Boin expressed similar disappointment. “I started with around nine lakh people in the queue and came down to 44,000, but by then the tickets were sold out. Some of my acquaintances had 250 people in the queue but still couldn’t get tickets,” he said.
Adding to fans’ disappointment, the tickets have already been resold at sky-high prices. Ramya revealed that tickets originally priced at ₹6,500 are now being sold at ₹80,000, while tickets priced at ₹35,000 are listed at ₹1.8 lakh. “It’s very sad for the fans who worked hard to bring Coldplay to Mumbai by filling out surveys, but now they are being resold for huge profits,” she said.
Fayaz, an intern at a law firm, also reported similar cases. He said, “One of my friends got a ticket for ₹12,500, but now he is selling it for ₹1 lakh. Another friend is selling a ticket worth ₹6,500 for ₹40,000.”
