Coldplay reveal their retirement plans from music production: We’re just going to…’

Coldplay recently revealed when the band will retire from making music albums. Frontman Chris Martin recently shared in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 that the British band will be retiring after releasing their 12th studio album. His 10th album will be released on October 4, 2024.

Coldplay announced when they will retire

During the interview, Martin revealed that the band was planning to retire after releasing their 12th studio album. He said, “We’re only going to make 12 proper albums and that’s realistic. Having that limitation means the quality control is just so much higher and it’s almost impossible to make it up to a song, which is great. And so where we can coast, we’re trying to make improvements. He explained that setting the 12-album limit was not a random decision. Rather, it was inspired by some of the biggest musical influences in his life.

“Harry Potter is only seven,” he said. The Beatles only have 12 ½ albums, about the same for Bob Marley, so are all our heroes.” However, this was not the only reason behind his decision, he said that he wanted his bandmates to have more time outside the band. Find your place.

As NBC News reports, Martin said, “As a band it takes a lot of people’s wrangling to make an album great, and I want to give the others some life for themselves.”

Retirement is not the end of the road

The group’s retirement would not mark the end of their collaboration as Martin would continue to work on separate projects with his bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion.

Coldplay recently finished the European leg of their Music of the Spheres Tour, which has grossed $1 billion in tickets since it began in 2022. This made them the only rock tour and the second tour to do so. Their next tour route will take them to Australia and New Zealand next month. Coldplay will perform in Asia next year, followed by recently announced shows in the UK.

While most fans were sad that the band is only two albums away from their retirement, some found this revelation strange as one user wrote on X, “Why are they announcing this years ago?” While another user wrote, “End of an era… why are they announcing already anyway?”
