Mumbai: The stabbing case of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is changing as the days pass. While this is a case of bravery for the actor and the auto-rickshaw driver Bhajan Lal Singh Rana who took the actor to the hospital, it now seems to be turning into a controversy as the Association of Medical Consultants Mumbai has now stepped in. A case raising important questions regarding the insurance claim settlement process.
The Association of Medical Consultants Mumbai has written to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) raising doubts over the speedy approval of claims as it involves an influential celebrity.
The organization has asked IRDAI why Saif Ali Khan was given preference. The letter states that the insurance company Niva Bupa sanctioned Rs 25 lakh to Lilavati Hospital within a few hours for the treatment of Saif Ali Khan.
Nikhil Jha, a health insurance expert, shared the letter sent by his ex, Medical Consultants Mumbai, on Twitter.
He wrote, “It is a normal procedure to ask for FIR copy in medicolegal cases. The insurance company waived this requirement and immediately approved the cashless request of Rs 25 lakh. The final bill was apparently Rs 36 lakh which was also approved. The surgery and stay for 4 days does not justify the huge bill and immediate approval.”
He further said, “If it was any common person then the company would have charged reasonable and customary charges and would not have paid the claim, IRDAI should answer as to why Niva Bupa gave preference to a celebrity and got the claim for common people. Made it difficult to do?” ,

The actor was stabbed multiple times while trying to fight off a thief in the early hours of Thursday. The actor suffered six knife wounds, two of which are said to be serious as they are close to his spinal cord. The incident took place at 2:15 am when the thief allegedly entered their Bandra home, and attacked their servant and Saif when they intervened.
Saif woke up due to the commotion in his son Jeh’s room. He went inside the room and saw the culprit arguing with their domestic help, seeing this, Saif intervened to save the domestic help by fighting the intruder with his bare hands.
Mumbai Police has reportedly arrested a Bangladeshi national in connection with the case and is currently following the investigation process.
