Rajinikanth’s latest blockbuster ‘Cooli’, directed by Lokesh Kanagarj, continues its unprecedented run at the global box office, setting new records for Tamil cinema. Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan and the much awaited ‘War 2’ of Junior and Junior NTR, which was released just a day before Independence Day, slowed down after a promising beginning, which is behind ‘Cooli’ in the collection.
Coolie dominates worldwide with ₹ 320 crore
Opening for an unprecedented and 150 crores worldwide on day 1, ‘Cooli’ inaugurated the most for a Tamil film. On its first day, the film earned ₹ 65 crore in the whole of India (Tamil ₹ 44.5 crore, Hindi ₹ 4.5 crore, Telugu ₹ 15.5 crore, Kannada ₹ 0.5 crore). A dip of about 15%was seen in day 2, which was brought in a net of ₹ 54.75 crore. The initial estimate for day 3 suggests a net of 38.50 crore, which pushes its three-day total of ₹ 158.25 crore in India.
Globally, ‘Cooli’ has already crossed the 320 crore gross mark, which has become the fastest Tamil film to dissolve 300 million miles of stone – Booting Vijay’s ‘Leo’, which took four days. Abroad, the film earned over $ 15 million in just three days, outlining Rajinikanth’s unmatched global appeal.
War sees drop after 2 strong start
On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR’s ‘War 2’, directed by Ayan Mukherjee, opened in India on its first day in a trap of ₹ 52 crore. The collection improved on day 2, reached ₹ 57.35 crore. However, the film saw a sharp decline on day 3, which earned only 33 crore (initial estimates), with Hindi occupants around 31.42%. It brings its three-day total of ₹ 142.35 crore, which is far behind the cool.
While ‘War 2’ still managed to perform better than Salman Khan’s ‘Alexander’ in his early weekends, the decline in numbers has raised questions about its long -term box office speed, especially with the huge success of the dominating headlines.
Titans conflict at box office
During the Independence Day Weekend, both films were discussed on a large scale. Despite mixed reviews, Rajinikanth’s ‘Cool’ has improved Bollywood’s Big-Ticut ‘War 2’, which once again proved the superstar’s permanent box office. Industry analysts predicted that ‘Cooli’ could run last with ₹ 600 crore global mark, put it in Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and jailer’s league.
Meanwhile, the discussion around ‘War 2’ remains more due to its action sequence and star power. Reports show that JR NTR is charging a shocking ₹ 70 crore, while Hrithik Roshan is taking a house of ₹ 50 crore with a profitable profit. Nevertheless, it faces a difficult fight to keep pace with Rajinikanth’s storm at the box office.
