Vimala color, 97, crafts, textiles, theater personality, builder of many institutes and an educationist associated with the prestigious Mysore Education Society (MES) in Bengaluru, died in the city on the evening of 25 February. She was suffering from age related diseases.

Malleshwaram’s face
Vimala Rangchar was the granddaughter of Venkatranga Iyngar, one of the founders of Malleshwaram at the end of the 19th century. This area was home to Vimala color. She was one of the founders of the Mysore Education Society (MES) in 1956 and was involved in running several educational institutions of MES until her last day. Vimala Rangchar was active in performing art, traditional crafts, mainly in promoting textiles, something she had inherited from her mother Ammanni Ammal, known for designing her own sarees. Through this work, she came in contact with Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay and considered Kamaladevi on her guru. She came to the head of the Karnataka chapter of both the Indian Nataya Sangh and the Crafts Council of India, which was established by Kamaladevi. He even obtained Kamala Manman, which was given in 2004 in memory of Kamaladevi. He was awarded the State Center in 2003.
Theater Veteran

Long before Ranga Shankar or even Ravindra Kalakshatra came to Bangalore, Vimala Rangchar took the initiative to create amateur dramatic associates theater (Ada Rangmandira) along with others on Jessie Road.
He was responsible for the establishment of Jawahar Bal Bhavan at Cuban Park in the early 1970s, where he also made a place for the theater.
