At D23 2024, Marvel Animation took center stage with several exciting announcements that have fans excited about the future of the Marvel universe. After a barrage of trailers and teasers on the first day, the panel was a showcase of Marvel’s upcoming animated projects, highlighting both beloved continuities and brand new series.

X-Men ’97
The highlight of the evening was X-Men ’97A revival of the iconic animated series that captured the hearts of fans in the 1990s. Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum and ComicBook’s Brandon Davis discuss the show’s highly anticipated return.
Winderbaum shared his personal connection to the original while reflecting on the series’ impact X Men “For me, the X-Men were the first piece of superhero action I saw as a kid,” the series creator said. The panel also included appearances from voice actors Lenore Zann (Rogue) and Cal Dodd (Wolverine), who reminisced about their roles and teased the new adventures awaiting the X-Men in this revival.

What If…? Season 3
Another big announcement was the third and final season what if…?Director Brian Andrews joined Davis to present a preview of the next installment in the series. The footage included a retro Avengers trailer that leads into a familiar story. what if…? Animation style.
This season will explore alternate realities with Captain America, Sam Wilson, and a new Avengers team. The presentation also highlighted Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, who will get more attention in the final season.

Eyes of Wakanda
New to the Marvel lineup Eyes of WakandaThe four-part series was created by Todd Harris and Ryan Coogler. Harris explained how the project evolved from discussions that took place during production. Infinity WarAnd Coogler praised Harris for his exceptional storyboarding skills.
The series will delve deeper into Wakanda’s secret agents, the War Dogs, who are tasked with protecting the country’s secrets. The first look introduces Noni, a new character depicted in a unique and beautiful art style. The teaser shows Noni’s daring escape, establishing her as a formidable figure in the series.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Additionally, the panel presented Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manan animated show that’s coming to Disney+. Show creator Jeff Trammell and voice actor Hudson Thames (Peter Parker) were present, as well as Colman Domingo, who will voice Norman Osborn.
The footage shows Peter Parker’s transformation into Spider-Man, his encounter with Nico Minoru, and a catchy new theme song. The show promises an interesting look at Spider-Man’s early days and his evolving relationship with Norman Osborn.
Marvel Zombies
Finally, a preview of the program Marvel ZombiesA four-part series which takes the story forward into the 1970s. what if…?The series will feature Shang-Chi and his friend Katy in a post-apocalyptic world, overrun by zombies.
The teaser included an exciting scene in which the characters sang “Lights” from Journey while roaming a Mad Max-style landscape, setting the stage for an action-packed series.
