“I’m really sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy the day,” he said, alleging that he found it childish that people in their 30s were pulling such pranks during a serious moment. “I don’t think I would have panicked if someone hadn’t yelled, ‘It’s acid!'” He also explained his reason for throwing the first punch at the potential offenders.
“When I got out of the car – bang! – then a balloon hit me. Then I looked up and saw a man holding a [one]I went to [and said,] ‘What the hell is wrong with you?'” The Machete star explained what prompted him to do so. After being knocked to the ground, he got up and threw a folding chair at the men. The fight became tense, with women and others urging him to stop, especially since children were present. However, a source previously informed the outlet that Trejo had mistakenly targeted the wrong group.
Danny Trejo believes the attack was ‘targeted’
Trejo admitted to leaving the car, but downplayed it as simply “backing off” and clarified that he tripped and fell off the sidewalk, not from being punched when someone grabbed him. Additionally, his comments indicated his belief that the situation may have stemmed from racial bias. “People still feel that way about the 50s and 60s, because no one else was targeted. No one else was targeted.”

His friend Mario Castillo, who was present during the incident and also suffered injuries near his eyes and hands, echoed the sentiment. Castillo felt the attack was ‘targeted.’ “Nobody else was hit by the balloons in front of or behind us. They were only targeting our lowriders.”
“I’d be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he was still talking and laughing,” Trejo said.
