Dave Bautista on his weight loss journey: The more weight I lost, the better I looked on camera

Los Angeles: Hollywood star and former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista says he lost weight because he did not want to look different next to his co-stars while working in a film.

Bautista recalled how he had to maintain a certain weight while filming the 2023 horror action film “Knock at the Cabin.”

“I started losing weight because I got too fat for a role. Uncomfortably fat. For ‘Knock at the Cabin’ I got really fat. I weighed about 315 pounds…I gained weight very quickly and I gained an uncomfortable amount of weight and it took a long time to lose it,” he told Chris Van Vliet in an interview.

The 55-year-old actor decided to lose weight because he felt it enhanced his on-screen image. He also revealed that his natural looks make him stand out on-screen, but when he was overweight it was “distracting”.

He said, “The more weight I lost, the better I looked on camera and the better I looked in front of the other actors. I’m still a big guy. At 6’4 and 240 pounds, I look like a gorilla in front of a normal actor and it’s distracting. I’ll probably lose a few more pounds. I’m killing myself to get in shape like that. I’m working hard.”

Batista began his wrestling career in 1999 and signed with WWE in 2000. He reached the pinnacle of fame in 2002 and remained one of the best wrestlers until his retirement in 2019.

In 2006, Batista made his acting debut in Greg Glienna’s comedy “Relative Strangers” and achieved success in 2014 with his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

He has been part of several projects including “My Spy”, “Dune: Part Two” and “The Last Showgirl”. His latest work is the action comedy “The Killer Game”. Directed by JJ Perry, the film is based on the publication of J Bonansinga.
