New Delhi: A bronze statue of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be made for the first time for an Indian film in Lester Square, London, in a currency from their 1995 superhit ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.
This will join the ‘The Square in the Square’ movie trail at the Lecester Square, the Heart of London Business Alliance on Wednesday declared.
The film’s statue, usually called ‘DDLJ’, will be unveiled in the spring this year, months before its 30th release anniversary on 20 October, 2025.
‘DDLJ’ marked the beginning of Aditya Chopra’s direction and was produced under Yash Raj Films Banner by his filmmaker Yash Chopra.
The film, which was shot prominently in the UK, follows the love story of two young Non -residents Indian Raj and Simran, who falls in love with their friends during the holiday through Europe. The film is around the Leester Square, where Raj and Simran are the first cross paths, who are unaware of each other.
According to a press release, the new statue will be deployed with the eastern roof, out of Odone Cinema, honoring the film’s scene. Other London places depicted in “DDLJ” include Horsgards Avenue, Hyde Park, Tower Bridge and Kings Cross Station.
Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Heart of London Business Alliance, said that “Titans of International Cinema” is a great opportunity to add Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol to their mark.

When ‘DDLJ’ was released 30 years ago, the film became a decisive moment for Indian cinema, which captured the hearts of all people who saw it worldwide, said Akshay Vidhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films.

Over the years, ‘DDLJ’ has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon, with a new film based on the film, ‘Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical’ has been set for the premiere at Manchester Opera House on 29 May.
