Following the commercial success of Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4 crossed the $120 million mark at the US box office.
After a sluggish first half of the year for theaters and the film industry, things are starting to look up again. Despicable Me 4 was released the evening before July 4. The long weekend spanning five holidays certainly boosted the film’s box office numbers. Despicable Me 4 grossed $126 million at the box office
Despicable Me 4 is the fourth installment of one of the most loved animated franchises. The film already owns enviable records with its previous films and now the latest version has raked in $126.5 million within 5 days of its release at the box office. As per Deadline’s report, the film had a steady start of $27 million by Friday but picked up momentum and ticket sales skyrocketed. The Despicable Me franchise first started in 2010, followed by two main sequels and two Minion spin-offs.
The film’s high interest is not just due to the holiday weekend. Universal Pictures and Illuminations have spent a significant amount of money on promotional campaigns. The campaigns included various collaborations and approaches to attract audiences of all ages.
The animated film worked in collaboration with the NFL and Minion and Gru statues in the form of inflatables, studio tour greetings, costume characters, food and beverages, and theater wraps at CityWalk. To capture the attention of the young audience, integration with Roblox was ensured, with tickets in 16 languages ​​and an Amazon gift card program as well as one of five Mega Minion digital backpacks as a reward upon redemption.

Family movies will dominate the box office this summer
The box office has seen a successful trend in the last few months with Inside Out 2, which is currently in its fourth weekend of release and has collected $1.22 billion as reported by the AP.
