Mumbai: Bollywood veteran actor Dharmendra shared an incident when he allegedly faced the late director Hishtikesh Mukherjee to replace him with superstar Rajesh Khanna in the film ‘Anand’.
Released in 1971, ‘Anand’ is considered one of the best films in Bollywood. It starred Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles and directed him by Rishikesh Mukherjee.
Rajesh Khanna’s tissue role in the film was allegedly given to the growing star Dharmendra. However, the director later allegedly replaced it without any formal explanation.
In a conversation with ANI on Friday, Dharmendra opened the incident and said that he once faced the director to remove the director from the film while he was intoxicated.
He said, “We were going to Bangalore. He told the whole story. I was naturally charged. He was a great director. I was very happy, and because of this, I drank some glasses of liquor.
Then, one day, the actor dared to fight the late director Mukherjee and asked him, “Where is my ‘Anand’?”

Despite his professional and brief controversy over ‘Anand’, the actor said that he still respects Rishikesh Mukherjee and is sad about his death.
Meanwhile, Dharmendra is set to re -join the film ‘Main Pyaar Kiyar Phir Se’ with actor Arbaaz Khan after 27 years.
The film is soon set to start its shooting schedule and is expected to hit theaters in November 2025, as noted in a press note shared by the manufacturers of ‘Main Pyaar Kiyar Phir Se’.
