The makers also confirmed that the final trailer of Twenty One will hit the theaters this weekend, marking a new chapter for filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, who is directing his first war film.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh stressed on the postponement, calling it a strategic and wise decision by the manufacturers. Sharing his thoughts on social media, Adarsh wrote, “Wise move by Dinesh Vijan – ‘Ikkis’ shifted to January 1, 2026. In 2017, the Hindi medium shrewdly pushed its release after Baahubali 2’s date was locked. In 2024, Chhava avoided a direct clash with Pushpa 2 by moving it to 2025. Both the decisions worked in their favour, Which allowed the films to have a clear dramatic presentation.”

The decision comes as the Christmas 2025 box office window looks extremely competitive. The blockbuster continues to dominate the domestic market and shows no signs of slowing down, while James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is scheduled to release in India on December 19, 2025, which is expected to capture a large number of screens and prime shows across the country.
Explaining the scenario, Adarsh said, “#Dhurandhar is wreaking havoc at the box office and shows no signs of slowing down. Also, #Avatar – the Hollywood blockbuster – will be releasing wide in India this Friday [19 Dec 2025]No movie is likely to leave the screens or prime shows during the Christmas week,
Hence the postponement of Twenty One is being attributed to the combined box office storm of Dhurandhar and the arrival of Avatar: Fire and Ash. The final trailer of the film is going to be released on December 19.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Twenty One is based on the life of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal, who was posthumously awarded the honor for his bravery during the 1971 India-Pakistan War. The film stars Agastya Nanda in the lead role and marks the final screen appearance of veteran actor Dharmendra. Akshay Kumar’s niece Simar Bhatia is also debuting in Bollywood with this film.
