Dhurandhar Movie Review

While the plot is taken from events we already know, what really sets Dhurandhar apart is its execution, with an actor who plays every character with conviction, entertaining action sequences, and Shashwat Sachdev as well as Hanumankind’s explosive BGM that elevates every single frame. This is a pure entertaining film.

The film takes place across multiple locations and is spread over eight chapters. It’s long, one of the longest Hindi films in 17 years but never dull. The pace allows each character to be properly introduced and gives each frame the space it needs to breathe.

Vikash Naulakha’s cinematography ties it all together, capturing everything from the rugged borders of Afghanistan to the dusty streets of Lyari with astonishing detail.

How was the cast?

Ranveer Singh as Hamza goes into complete beast mode, he looks the part and owns it completely. Yet when required, he also manages to slip into moments of subtlety and restraint and delivers brilliant acting with his eyes.

However, the real standout is Akshaye Khanna as Rahman. He delivers a performance that is sharp, hair-raising and brutally effective – transforming from a grieving father mourning his son to a cold, calculated force of vengeance.

The supporting cast is consistently impressive despite limited screen time.

Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal brings fury and danger in a never seen before avatar.

Sanjay Dutt as SP Aslam Choudhary is brutal with or without the gun and adds unexpected humor.

R. Madhavan delivers a quiet yet intense performance full of controlled emotions.

Debutant Sara Arjun as Yalina Jamil looks fresh and acts well, although her role is not very meaty.

What was special?

The BGM deserves special mention. An entire intense action sequence choreographed on Ramba Ho keeps the adrenaline high.

Some scenes are brutal, violent and hair-raising, yet contain mass appeal. The use of real-life recordings and archival clips immerses you in the world of Dhurandhar, though it also contributes to the film’s long runtime.

The climax is a bit long but remains impressive.

what did not work?

The pairing and noticeable age difference between Sara Arjun and Ranveer Singh looks awkward on screen, even though both give strong performances individually.

Another drawback is its excessive length. Despite its 214-minute runtime, the film barely touches on Hamza’s personal life, which will be explored in the sequel.

It also feels overcrowded in some areas, with too much happening too quickly. One blink, and you risk missing an important detail.

Dhurandhar Movie Review: Is It Worth the Length?

The film is literally packed with punches, kicks and high-voltage action. Ranveer Singh gives a strong performance, and the rest of the cast maintains their dominance, making it an overall entertaining watch. Some of the action sequences are hair-raising, while others may leave you a little uncomfortable. At times, you may wonder when the movie will end, but despite the long running time, it is worth a watch, especially while eagerly awaiting the sequel.
