Although she never publicly shared any major health updates in her final months, Keaton has previously spoken about her long battle with skin cancer and bulimia, according to E! Online.

His trademark hats were more than a fashion choice. She started wearing them seriously after being diagnosed with skin cancer at the age of 21.

“It’s a family history,” he told the Los Angeles Times in 2015. “I remember my Aunt Martha had skin cancer, so severe they had her nose removed. My father had basal skin cancer and my brother had it. It’s hard with this skin cancer. So you have to wear sunblock.”

Keaton didn’t care about her skin in her 20s

Keaton said she didn’t start taking care of her skin until later in life. “I wasn’t paying much attention in my 20s,” she admitted. “I didn’t do the research and didn’t really care and that was stupid because it’s haunted me my entire adult life, even until recently. I didn’t start sun care until my 40s.”

According to the Times, after being treated for basal cell carcinoma at age 20, Keaton was later diagnosed with squamous cell cancer, which required two surgeries.

She also spoke openly about her battle with bulimia, which began early in her career after she was asked to lose 10 pounds for a Broadway role.

In a 2014 interview with Dr. Oz, she said, “I worked just to satisfy my hunger, so I’m addicted.” “It’s true. I am an addict in recovery, I will always be an addict. I have an addict nature inside of me.”

Before the cleanse, Keaton consumed 20,000 calories a day.

Keaton described how she used to eat up to 20,000 calories a day before the cleanse. He said, “A typical dinner included a bucket of chicken, several orders of fries with blue cheese and ketchup, a few TV dinners, a quart of soda, pounds of candy, an entire cake and three banana cream pies.”

Finally, he asked for help. “Someone told me I had some mental problems, so I went to an analyst,” she said. “I’ll go five days a week.”

Keaton adopted children at the age of 50

Keaton, who adopted daughter Dexter, 29, and son Duke, 25, at the age of 50, later said she has no need to hide her past.

According to the New York Daily News, he wrote in his 2011 book Then Again, “I have nothing to hide. It’s not relevant, but to me it feels good.” “I feel like I’m a sister to all the other women, and I’m sure to men too, who have some type of eating disorder, and I’m part of the team.”
